  • Lost In Canada | Toronto & Montréal | Summer Trip 2017

Despite countless ordeals of getting to Canada, my summer exploration in Canada was an amazing experience. First in Toronto, then Montréal with high school friend Louis. In Toronto: I stayed at an awesome Airbnb downtown in Toronto. You can see the famous CN Tower right from the balcony. And going up to the CN tower is another thing you definitely don't want to miss if you are not acrophobic :) In Montréal, I visited Notre-Dame Basilica both at night and during the day. It's quite a different view. Louis showed me around the city by Bixi bikes. We biked at the Old Port of Montreal at night. We strolled around Rue Ste.-Catherine, which is a street of all the fancy boutiques. We tried conducting a musical fountain at the Places des Arts. Also, if you are interested, you can take a cruise a...

Rents on the upscale Bloor Street have doubled in 4 years, ranking as the 22nd most expensive retail location in the world in 2006, up two spots from 2005. Nationally, Vancouver's upscale Robson Street tied with Bloor Street West as the most expensive street in Canada, with an annual average rental price of $208 per square foot. Under the intersection of Yonge and Bloor Streets is the Bloor-Yonge subway station, which is the busiest in the city, serving approximately 368,800 people a day. Above ground, the intersection encompasses commercial stores and condominiums. In the downtown, Bloor Street serves as the northern edge of the University of Toronto campus, and is host to several historic sites, including the Bata Shoe Museum, the Royal Conservatory of Music, and the southern edge of Yorkville, in an area now known as the Bloor Street Culture Corridor. Shopping The stretch of Bloor between Yonge Street and Avenue Road, in Yorkville, is called Mink Mile, and it is the most prestigious shopping street in Toronto. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bloor_Street Mink Mile is an upscale shopping district in the neighbourhood of Yorkville in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, along Bloor Street between Yonge Street and Avenue Road. Mink Mile commands an average rent of $310 per square foot, making it the most expensive place in Canada to lease retail space[1] and the third most expensive retail space in North America. This stretch of Bloor was named in 2008 the seventh most expensive shopping street in the world by Fortune Magazine, claiming tenants can make $1,500 to $4,500 per square foot in sales.[2] The Mink Mile has been recognized as one of the most luxurious shopping streets in North America, being compared to New York's Fifth Avenue, Chicago's Magnificent Mile, and Los Angeles' Rodeo Drive.[3] Demand remained high on the Mink Mile, according to real estate firm, Cushman and Wakefield. In 2005, retail space rents were $110 per square foot. The 2010 Cushman and Wakefield report indicate rents of $198 per square foot, while the Q407 Toronto Retail Report in 2010[4] mentions deals reaching $300 per square foot, making the Mink Mile the third most expensive retail street in North America. This has led to higher rents on nearby Cumberland St. and Yorkville Ave., with several new developments asking $125 per square foot. Expensive Indian fashion boutique INDIVA, which moved to a smaller boutique on Yorkville Ave., claims that the monthly rent at their previous location was $85,000.[5] Many independent retailers struggle to meet these demands, and many in past years have closed or relocated to other streets. However, it is estimated that some retailers pull in more than $2000 per square foot in sales. Several international luxury retailers have shops in the area including Hermès, Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Prada, Chanel, Hugo Boss, Diesel, Cartier, Burberry, Dolce & Gabbana, Escada, Cole Haan, Porsche Design, Tiffany & Co., Coach, Victorinox Swiss Army, Michael Kors and a 50,000 square foot Harry Rosen flagship. Holt Renfrew also has its flagship department store on Bloor Street (as well as a recently added expansion). Shoppers can also find many more ubiquitous stores here such as J. Crew, Banana Republic, The Gap, American Apparel, Le Château, BCBG Max Azria, Guess?, Roots Canada, Sephora, Pottery Barn, H&M, The Body Shop, Aritzia, Club Monaco, and Williams-Sonoma. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mink_Mile Toronto is the most populous city in Canada,[12] the provincial capital of Ontario,[13] and the centre of the Greater Toronto Area, the most populous metropolitan area in Canada.[14] In the 2011 census, Toronto had a population of 2,615,060, making it the fifth largest city in North America.[6] A population estimate from a city report released in 2013 shows the city is now the fourth most populous city in North America, after Mexico City, New York City, and Los Angeles.[15][16] A global city,[17] Toronto is an international centre of business, finance, arts, and culture,[18][19] and is widely recognized as one of the most multicultural and cosmopolitan cities in the world. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toronto http://www.seetorontonow.com/shopping/shopping-in-bloor-yorkville-high-end-fashion-and-boutiques/ http://bloor-yorkville.com/cat/shopping/ http://www.bloorstculturecorridor.com/ https://www.tripadvisor.com/Attractions-g155019-Activities-Toronto_Ontario.html

This generates a high quality of life that attracts immigrants and visitors alike. FROM MILL TOWN TO CANADIAN METROPOLIS When Captain George Vancouver entered the straight of Georgia in 1792 and explored Burrard Inlet, he saw nothing but a gigantic forest of pine trees on the opposite shore. Loggers were the first settlers and a sawmill was built on the southern shore of the bay in 1865. Two years later John Deighton built a saloon nearby, around which a small settlement named Granville grew. When the Canadian Pacific Railway selected Granville as the terminus of the first transcontinental railway line, the settlement became known far and wide. From then on the little town of Granville, which in 1886 was officially re-baptized “Vancouver”, began its precipitant rise. TOP LEVEL CULTURE AND GASTRONOMY Anyone who enjoys wandering around the city centre will find Robson Street, famous for its boutiques, cafés and restaurants, an unalloyed delight. As far as food is concerned, Vancouver has a well-established reputation as a gastronomic Mecca. The range of theatres, cinemas, museums and concert halls is also substantial. The city’s charm has attracted thousands of immigrants from the four corners of the globe, who have given Vancouver its multicultural character. There are numerous islands just off the coast. The largest of them, Vancouver Island, is easily reached by ferry from the mainland. It’s capital, Victoria, is noted for its very English atmosphere and is well worth a visit. In winter, the snow-covered slopes of the nearby mountains exert their own special attraction. In short, this is a city where no one is bored. Also, if you are interested, you can take a cruise at the old port if you want to see the skyline of Montréal. At night, we went to a bar on St Laurent Blvd. You can feel the vibe as long as you are on this street. I also went to Biodome, Olympics Park, Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, Saint Joseph's Oratory. Unlike Toronto, Montréal does not have a lot of skyscrapers. So climbing the Mount Royal is also an awesome choice to see the bird-eye view of the city (especially at night). Also don't forget to try some of the best smoke meat at Schwartz's and poutine basically anywhere you want! Nespresso Toronto: New Nespresso Boutique Bar Brings the Ultimate Coffee Experiences to Toronto's Famed Yorkville Neighbourhood Internationally-recognized pioneer in highest quality premium portioned coffee, Nespresso, has opened the doors of its second Flagship Boutique Bar in Canada, and the first in the country's largest city, Toronto. The revered brand unveiled a unique 14,122 square foot retail space in the prestigious Yorkville neighbourhood, immersing shoppers in an indulgent, multi-sensory experience where they can discover the entire Nespresso offering and enhance their own coffee experience. "We are thrilled to open our second flagship boutique in Canada in one of its most prestigious neighbourhoods that is steeped in history and has been the backdrop for countless unforgettable moments," said Mr. Jacques Demont, President, Nespresso Canada. "There is a real shift in trends on how Canadians consume coffee. Many, above all else, are looking for an ultimate quality experience and to bring the barista concept home. We have been in the market for a mere five years but have been warmly welcomed by coffee lovers across the country and are excited to continue expanding our offering year over year." Nespresso has built its success on creating the highest quality Grand Cru coffees, long-lasting consumer relationships and sustainable business success - key growth drivers for the brand in a dynamic and growing portioned coffee category. The Nespresso Boutique Bar, located at 159 Cumberland Street, is designed to specifically enhance the customer experience and Torontonian's increasing desire for quality coffee. The Boutique Bar designed by Italian architect Aldo Parisotto of Parisotto e Formenton is a two-story open concept structure featuring an impressive floor to ceiling glass façade storefront. For the first time in Canada, the Toronto Flagship Boutique Bar includes a Recycling Station, where consumers can drop off used capsules, and the N Pad Bar where guests can interact with the brand through a dynamic application that even creates personalized capsule art. The interactive space includes all the elements identified with Nespresso boutiques, inspired by the vibrant colours of the Grand Cru coffees and sleek lines of its coffee machines. Exclusive to Nespresso, the interior lounge furniture, including the Egg chair and Favh sofa, is designed by Fritz Hansen for all its Boutique Bars around the world. Customers visiting the Toronto flagship Boutique Bar will have the opportunity to enjoy premium quality coffee experiences, savour a light menu of primarily locally sourced sweet and savoury fare from local Chef Jean-Charles Dupoire of Loire Restaurant, and relax in the state-of-the-art space. Key highlights include: The Boutique Bar: Serving the premium 21 Grand Cru coffees, espresso and espresso-based coffee recipes, as well as a light breakfast, lunch and dinner menu of primarily locally sourced sweet and savoury fare. Chef Jean-Charles Dupoire has curated a customized menu for the Toronto Boutique Bar. The Boutique Bar seats 47 guests inside and 14 guests on the Cumberland Street-facing terrace. Recycling: Located directly inside the entrance to the Boutique Bar is a station, where Nespresso Club Members can easily return their used Grand Cru capsules and retrieve a new bag specifically for capsule recycling. This is the first Nespresso Recycling Station in Canada. The N Pad Bar: Features a large six-seat high top table with iPads available for guests to use. Loaded with an interactive application, the iPads provide yet another exciting and unique way to discover the brand for the first time in Canada. The Welcome Area: All guests and Club Members will be welcomed into the boutique by a hostess, who will help direct them to what they require in the Boutique Bar, helping ensure they receive the complete Nespresso experience from the moment they step into the Boutique. Customer Picking: Club Members who are already familiar with the brand and choose to order online or through the customer relations centre have the option to pick-up their deliveries at the Boutique. Machine gallery: Customers are welcomed into the machine gallery featuring the complete Nespresso machine product range, ranging in price from $199 to $999. Guests can experience the Grand Cru of their choice, while learning about the different Nespresso machines and accessories. Grand Crus: A wall of the 21 Nespresso Grand Cru capsules fills the back wall of the Boutique Bar, allowing Club Members to easily select and purchase capsules for their Nespresso machine. The Toronto Boutique Bar is the latest indication of the brand's continued growth in the Canadian market and its commitment to growing its presence across the country.

Gastown is the old town of Vancouver, British Columbia, at the northeast end of Downtown. This area was the first downtown area of Vancouver' and named after a steamboat captain who opened the areas first bar in 1867. Gastown is today a few blocks of brick buildings around Water Street featuring boutiques, restaurants and nightclubs. The area’s nightlife attracts a lot of visitors. The steam-powered clock on the corner of Cambie and Water Street is the areas most well known landmark. However it’s not as old as one might think, it’s built in 1977 as a way to take care of steam from a vent.

St John's in Newfoundland & Labrador St. John's, the capital of the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador, is the perfect combination of big-city luxury and small-town charm. As the oldest and most easterly city in North America, this is where heritage lives. Melded with culture, history, and personality, St. John's has survived two World Wars, five centuries, countless hardships and triumphs. It's become a rare, old city full of character, experience and charisma, with a contemporary, sophisticated edge. Wander down the narrow, criss-crossing streets carved by horse and carriage over 100 years ago. Pass the colourful jellybean row houses wedged together in every space lining the sides of steep hills and hidden alleyways. Once you've meandered down to the working harbour of the waterfront, look towards the Narrows and imagine a time when the waters were brimming full with fishing schooners. Visit Quidi Vidi, the charming village-within-a-city, which still embodies the spirit of an old fishing outport. Then, hike up nearby Signal Hill through the famous Battery, where tiny wooden homes still cling valiantly to cliffsides ravaged by ocean waves. The unmistakable, iconic Cabot Tower guards the top of Signal Hill, where military men guarded the shores throughout the 1700s and 1800s. Here, Marconi famously received his first transmission across the Atlantic in 1901. Look out over the cliffs and watch the city's harbour and captivating skyline spread out before you. Perched on the top of the horizon is The Rooms, home to the provincial museum, art gallery and archives, standing next to the striking twin clock towers of the Basilica of St. John the Baptist. As you explore the history of this place, shop at the many fine boutiques, shops, cafés, restaurants, pubs, and art galleries lining the streets. In the evening, sit back, relax, and enjoy live music or local theatre where actors will whisk you away to another place and time. For nightlife excitement, head to the famous George Street. Here, clubs, pubs, bars, and restaurants are stacked and crammed. Every evening, George Street blazes with energy, especially during the George Street Festival -- five days and nights of dynamic musical entertainment. Here in St. John's, courteous and lively people will treat you as friends -- willing to send you in the right direction, help you on your way, or even take you there. Always happy to tell a tale, no matter how tall, just to make you smile. Certainly, this city is like no other. Getting Here: St. John's, the capital city of Newfoundland and Labrador, is the most easterly point in North America, located at the beginning of the Trans-Canada Highway Route 1, just 3 hours from Toronto, 4 from New York and 4.5 from London England.

Looking for some adventure? You've come to the right city. No matter what time of year, when you start your day in Vancouver, it can take you anywhere. Calling all shopaholics! From independent designers and high-fashion labels to global retailers and coastal-lifestyle brands, shopping in Vancouver is all about diversity—which is what you should expect from Canada's only major metropolitan city on the Pacific Coast. Vancouver is Canada's playground and its proximity to the ocean, mountains and forest is reflected in almost every facet of the city's culture. You'll be hard pressed to find a more beautiful shopping destination in any other major city in North America. As most travelers know, neighbourhood shopping is a great way to discover a city. It's also a great way to meet some of the people who live here. We also are home to Metrotown, the second largest mall in Canada—so for all you one-stop, shop-till-you-drop visitors, we've got you covered too. In this video, we wanted to give visitors a quick overview of Vancouver's shopping scene. Here are a list and some additional quick facts about the neighbourhoods and shopping centres we featured. Special thanks to Kildare Curtis from Eugene Choo and Nicole Durnin from LYNNsteve Boutique for their insight and advice. 1) Main Street The best shopping areas here are on Main Street between 8th to 12th Ave and 16th and 33rd. In these areas, you'll find boutiques, vintage clothing, bookstores and home design retailers, along with fantastic coffee shops and restaurants. This is one of my favourite places to shop in the city. 2) West 4th Ave (Kitsilano) This street runs above to Kitsilano Beach, which is worth a trip in its own right. The intersection at Burrard St and West 4th Ave is a great place to start. Here you'll discover ski, snowboarding, yoga and other coastal lifestyle stores. Head west on West 4th and you'll come across great shoe stores, restaurants and specialty retailers. 3) Pacific Centre This shopping centre is located right in the heart of downtown Vancouver and stretches for three city blocks—under and above ground—between Robson St and West Pender St. You'll find familiar stores here, including Holt Renfrew, H&M and many others. 4) Oakridge Centre This is a popular shopping destination thanks to its proximity to Richmond and the Vancouver International Airport. It's also easily accessible by the Canada Line-YVR SkyTrain. This shopping center definitely has an upscale vibe and it features many luxury brand retailers. 5) Metropolis at Metrotown This is the kind of mall where time stops and with over 450 stores and services, that's a good thing! Located in Burnaby, you can quickly travel here on the Expo and Millennium SkyTrain lines. Get off at Metrotown Station. 6) Luxury Brands Although luxury brand retailers are located throughout the city, a good place to start your search is where Burrard St intersects Alberni St downtown. You should also check out the Sinclair Centre at West Hastings St and Granville St. Make sure to explore the surround area. 7) Yaletown Newly gentrified, Yaletown is Vancouver's trendy and upscale warehouse district. What used to be loading docks are now sidewalks. You'll find great fashion, home design, and skin care retailers here. Start your visit by exploring Hamilton St and Mainland St between Nelson St and Drake St. 8) Gastown Best boutiques, best furniture stores and best restaurants...sure I'm biased, but this is my neighbourhood, so I should be! There are also great art galleries and as well as a long strip on Water Street where retailers sell classic Canadian souvenirs. 9) Robson Street This is Vancouver's premiere shopping and strolling area. It's a great place to shop or to sit for a meal and people watch. In addition to the large global brands, make sure to check out Canadian retailers like Lululemon Athletica, which was founded and is still based here in Vancouver.
